ABC Challenge Announcement

I thought it would be fun to start a little challenge for myself for the blog. I thought about it for a bit and I wanted the challenge to have some level of difficulty without being completely impossible. So I figured something a bit time-consuming but still very fun could be an ABC Challenge.

What is an ABC Challenge, you may ask? Basically, I am going to watch and review one show per week with each show starting with a different letter of the alphabet. In other words, I start this week with a show that starts with A and review it and next week I will watch a show that starts with B and review it and so on, until I get through each letter of the alphabet. Now where is the difficulty, you may ask? I have placed no cap on the number of episodes per show so in theory I could have as few as 12 and as many as 100+. Unlike in my sprier younger days, my work schedule does not dictate that I can binge watch 50 episodes of a show in one day. And yes that is physically possible. So time will be against me during this challenge.

Show Criteria

The show selection that I am doing has to meet certain criteria.

Firstly, the most obvious one is that it has to start with the letter of the week. As a note though, I am not counting ‘The’ in front of the show title as a ‘T’. Basically this would limit other letters and give way too many options for ‘T’ which already has enough. I might even extend this to ‘The adventures of’ because that’s way too common too, but ‘The’ is definitely not counting.

Next, given the number of anime and western animation series out there, it’s easily possible to do either of them for the challenge. I didn’t want to just do one or the other, each have their own stylistic differences that need to be highlighted. I thought the fairest thing I could was each week I will flip a coin for which genre I will do that week. If I get 5 in a row of the same genre following this method I will reevaluate it. For now though, that’s what I’m doing.

Finally, I am picking what I am going to watch, however I’m going for more obscure titles. I’ll admit that I will probably cheat at some point. By cheat I mean, if I’m in a mood for a specific genre I will watch that genre. Just for basis example, my selection for A is ‘Another’ which is a horror anime series that’s fairly well-known and somewhat popular. The reason I chose it, was because I hadn’t seen a good mystery horror series in a while and had a desire to watch one. I won’t make this a pattern though. I’m giving out bonus points to shows I’ve never seen. I figure worst comes to worse, the show’s bad and I can steer other people away from seeing it. Best case scenario, I have a new show I can binge if given the time. Also, suggestions are thoroughly appreciated for potential picks during this challenge.

Final Thoughts

I will do my best to also have additional reviews of other shows not associated with this. In addition, I have top 10 lists and some commentary pieces that I plan to release in the near future as well, including the Top 10 DIsney Films of All Time list. This will be an extremely difficult challenge, but still very doable. I will admit though, 26 weeks is a long period of time and who knows what will happen, but I will do my best.
